There's a Program for Everyone in Colonie!
There's something for everyone to do in Colonie during each season, especially during the spring and summer months. As the weather warms up, the Colonie Parks & Recreation Department is excited for you to discover and indulge in all of the wonderful things the Town of Colonie has to offer. Town of Colonie Parks and Recreation department offers several programs listed below.
Learn to Swim
The Parks and Recreation Department offers two aquatic programs, an American Red Cross six level Learn–to–Swim Program and Guard Start & Water Safety Program. Skills are taught based on levels established by the American Red Cross. All swimmers will be evaluated during their first class and groups may be adjusted as necessary. The program at the town pool is a two-week program that begins at the end of June through the beginning of July.

This program is open to children who are 6 years or older. The registrant's American Red Cross Swimming Achievement Card must accompany the registration form. To ensure safety, registrants without a card will initially be placed in a “Beginners” class until evaluated.

Guard Start and Water Safety Program
The program is designed to begin a foundation of skills, knowledge and attitudes needed for future lifeguards. The program consists of five categories: fitness, prevention, water rescues, response and leadership.

- Eligibility
- Children must be 11 years or older by June 25, 2018 and be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Swim 250 yards continuously using crawl, sidestroke and elementary backstroke.
- Tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs.
- Standing front dive.

Playground Program
The Playground program is a six week program for school-age children 5 to 13 years old and who have completed Kindergarten. There are 5 sites throughout the Town and the program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Summer Enrichment Program

Children's Tennis Program (Enrichment Program)
Beginner and Advanced Tennis Lessons are offered.
Beginner Lessons are designed for children with 0 to 5 years of tennis experience and will include:
- basic hand eye coordination
- beginning tennis skills
- warm up exercises
- tennis games and skills to reinforce tennis skills
- rules of the game and court etiquette
Advanced Lessons will provide more advanced instruction for students looking to improve their tennis skills. Students will participate in both doubles and singles matches while reinforcing each students' skills and abilities.

Junior Golf Classes (Enrichment Program)
Juniors will be introduced to all facets of the game including the golf swing, short game, putting, rules and etiquette in a fun atmosphere.

Tennis Program
The Town of Colonie Parks and Recreation department is offering a five-week (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Intermediate) Tennis Instructional Program for children and adults at various tennis court locations in North and South Colonie.

Musical Groups
The Colonie Town Band and the Colonie Centennial Brass Choir, in their 50th and 19th year of operation, respectively, consists of groups of volunteer musicians who perform at various sites throughout the Capital District throughout the year. The Parks and Recreation Department also sponsors The Memorial Concert Band of Colonie. The band plays concerts in the Mark Cornell Auditorium at Colonie Central High School.
