Board of Assessment Review
A 5 person quasi-judicial board whose sole purpose is to guarantee taxpayer’s rights by hearing real property assessment complaints (grievances) and arriving at fair and impartial determinations regarding those complaints.Meets annually on the 4th Tuesday in May. -
Community Development Citizen Advisory Committee
Established to encourage broad public participation in the Town’s Community Development activities and Consolidated Plan process. The Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Town Board and the Community Development Department.Meets as needed. -
Conservation Advisory Council
Maintains the Town's open space inventory, promotes interest in the environment through bulletin board displays, public relations, and educational presentations. The CAC supports efforts involved with the acquisition of environmentally significant properties located within the Town and coordinates and assists in the Town’s Conservation Day program.Meets 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. -
Board of Trustees of Friends of Pruyn House
The mission of the Board of Trustees of Friends of Pruyn House, a not-for-profit organization in partnership with the Town of Colonie, serving as the educational, historical and cultural center of the Town, is to restore, conserve and preserve the Pruyn House Complex, as authorized by the provisions of the Certificate of Incorporation.Meets 2nd Monday of each month. -
Highway Safety Committee
Provides site-specific, traffic-related recommendations about residents’ traffic concerns and proposed development projects. Questions regarding this Committee may be directed to the Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

Industrial Development Agency
It is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation of the State of New York. The Agency is in place to help private businesses improve the job opportunities, health, general prosperity, and overall economic welfare of the Town and its residents over the long term. IDA's immediate goal is to retain and promote employment by supporting projects that will have a positive impact on the Town's economy.Meets as needed. -
Library Board
As the governing body of the William K. Sanford Town Library, the Board establishes policies to foster and improve library service, employs a library director and personnel, and supervises the expenditure of the library's funds. .Meets 4th Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM & special meetings as announced. -
Local Development Corporation
LDC, in conjunction with the IDA and the Town of Colonie Department of Planning and Economic Development, supports Town of Colonie economic development through the creation of new business and employment opportunities and the retention and expansion of current commercial enterprises. The purpose of the LDC is to benefit the residents of the Town of Colonie.See the LDC webpage for exact meeting dates. -
Planning Board
The Town of Colonie Planning Board reviews, drafts recommendations and / or approves or disapproves proposals for site plan review, planning special permits, subdivision of land or conservation development, open development areas and sites proposed for planned development districts. It also formulates recommendations in connection with any proposed changes or amendments to the Code of the Town of Colonie.Meets every other Tuesday (subject to change). -
Senior Citizen Club Committee
Representatives from the six Town-funded clubs meet monthly to receive updates and information on programs, services and benefits from the Senior Resources Department. Club representatives present updates on Club activities and make recommendations for senior citizens’ programs related to the social, educational, and physical well-being of the Town’s senior population to the Senior Resources Department and Town Board.Meets 3rd Thursday of each month, 9:30 AM. -
Sign Review Board
The Town of Colonie Sign Review Board is responsible for reviewing applications for special exceptions to the sign provisions of Chapter 190 of the Code of the Town of Colonie and hearing appeals on orders or determinations of the Building Department involving the interpretation of the sign provisions.Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month, 7:00 PM. -
Significant Environmental Areas Management Appeals Board (SEAMAB)
It hears and decides appeals or determinations of the floodplain and watercourse management areas. It also encourages planning and development of the natural and man-made watercourse and adjacent lands in the Town of Colonie in ways which will restore, protect, develop and enhance their recreational, cultural, visual and historical amenities.Meets monthly on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM at Public Operations Center. Solid Waste Alternative Planning Committee (SWAP)
Investigates alternatives to conventional landfill disposal of solid waste and considers future solid waste management practices. .Usually meets monthly on Fridays at 7:00 PM at the Public Operations Center. Town Board
The Town Board controls Town finances, legislation and policy, and acquisition of real property. It appoints all non-elected officers and employees of the Town, including members of the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. Along with the Supervisor, the Town Board creates and appoints unpaid members to various advisory boards. The Town Board also votes on the budget recommended by the Supervisor and votes budget modifications or transfers.Usually meets the 2nd & 4th Thursday of month (subject to change), special meetings as announced.

Youth Advisory Board
It promotes civic responsibility among the participating students by involving them in selecting, planning, and implementing projects. It helps participating students enhance an understanding of the community and its available resources, promote leadership and citizenship, and provides an opportunity to channel their interests into advocating for projects that promote civic responsibility.Meets the 1st Thursday of each month, 12:00 PM; no meetings in June, July or August. -
Zoning Board of Appeals
The Town of Colonie Zoning Board of Appeals is the body that considers, reviews and decides appeals from decisions of officials charged with the administration and enforcement of the Colonie Land Use Law and Town Law § 280-a. The Zoning Board of Appeals also hears applications for special use permits.Meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday, 7:00 PM (subject to change).
