The Town of Colonie Civil Service is responsible for the administration, recruitment, selection, and examination of prospective Town employees as well as classification of positions in the Town.
The Personnel Officer is responsible for assuring compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations governing the selection and or promotion of employees. The Town of Colonie Civil Service Department was created in 1975. It is dedicated to meeting the staffing needs of the Town while assuring integrity and fairness in the process.
EXAM / EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION
The Town Civil Service Department is pleased to provide information about Town positions. Applicants can obtain a Town Application for Employment at the Civil Service Office at Memorial Town Hall or print a form below. Applications can then be filled out and brought to or mailed to the Town Civil Service Office.

ALL of the sections on the application must be completed in detail, even if you elect to attach a resumé to your application form. NOTICE TO APPLICANTS
It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application and appropriate filing fee are received by the Town of Colonie Civil Service Department no later than 4:30pm on the last filing date or postmarked by the United States Postal Service by no later than one day prior to the last filing date for an examination. The Town of Colonie Department of Civil Service is not responsible for lost or late applications sent via Postal Service.
Recruitment for certain Town positions is continuous. Other positions are announced as the need arises. Descriptions of these positions will be posted when examinations for them are scheduled.
NEW YORK STATE EXAM ANNOUNCED
Professional Careers Opportunities (PCO) Exam
New York State will be administering the Professional Careers Opportunities (PCO) Exam on April 8, 2017 which is open to anyone in New York State with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. If you are interested in taking this exam please view the NYS Civil Service website for the announcement and application.
SUMMER / SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT
The Civil Service Department is now accepting applications for the 2017 Summer / Seasonal positions. Summer positions are available at the Town Pool, Town Golf Course, Town Parks and DPW Leaf and Brush Programs. The minimum age requirement for all summer positions is 16 years old. DPW Leaf and Brush minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
