Jill A. Penn
Jill A. Penn was born in Albany, N.Y where she resided until moving to Colonie in 2006 with her husband, George, daughter, Lauren and dog, Paddington. She is a graduate of Mercy High School and attended the State University of New York at Albany where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Education. Jill also received two advanced degrees from SUNY Albany, a Masters in English Education and a School District Administrator certificate in Educational Administration.
Jill began her career in education in 1992 in the South Colonie Central School District as a high school English teacher. In February of 2000, she became an administrator in South Colonie where she still serves the students and families. In her role as a building leader, Jill has focused on helping children feel connected, safe and empowered. While at Sand Creek Middle School, she played a critical role in the anti-bullying initiative and presented at state and local conferences on how to create a “bully free school” at all levels. In 2012, Jill left Sand Creek to become an elementary principal in the district. She is currently the principal of Forest Park Elementary School where she works collaboratively with the staff to address the social emotional needs of the students and educate them on the importance of good character. After serving the families of South Colonie for the past 28 years as a teacher and school administrator, Jill is looking forward to working with the residents of Colonie as a councilwoman.
In her free time, Jill enjoys spending time with her family, running outside and walking her dog at the Crossings and the bike path.
