Jennifer Whalen has devoted much of her life and professional career toward making the Town of Colonie a better place to call home.
Jennifer has a track record of standing up for the people, including service as Assistant Attorney General and Assistant Counsel for the state Racing and Wagering Board. As prosecutor, Jennifer recovered stolen taxpayer funds, prevented abuse of Medicaid funds and fought mismanagement in state agencies.
Years of professional and business experience, along with raising a family in Colonie, have helped prepare Jennifer to serve the town. Today, Jennifer helps make the dream of owning a home or business come true with her residential and commercial real estate firm, The Whalen Group. She is also an attorney with years of experience negotiating contracts and handling construction litigation. During her years in private practice, Jennifer handled cases in state and federal courts. She received her law degree from Albany Law School and bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.
The Whalen family has been proud to serve country and community. Jennifer’s husband, Matthew, served as a Captain in the U.S. Army and four years as chief medical officer for New York’s 10th Mountain Division. Jennifer has served as a volunteer for Red Cross of Northeastern New York, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Saratoga Performing Arts Center Action Council, “To Life” promoting breast cancer awareness, and veteran’s organizations, including Operation Remember ME and Gold Star Families. Jennifer is also a former board member of the Greater Loudonville Association.
Jennifer lives in Colonie with her husband, gastroenterologist Dr. Matthew Ben, and their two boys, Leland, age 15, and Reade, age 14. The boys attend The Albany Academy and Choate Rosemary Hall are on the debate team and serve in the cadet corps. Jennifer and her family enjoy participating in many year-round outdoor activities such as skiing, golfing, water sports, and tennis. Jennifer also loves to walk her dog Daisy at the Crossings.
