Brian Austin is a long time resident of the Town and lives in Latham with his wife and three children. After graduating from SUNY Potsdam - Crane School of Music in 1991, Brian settled back in the Capital District to teach at Shaker Junior High School while at the same time earning his Masters Degree in Education from SUNY Albany. Today he works at Shaker High School where he is celebrating 30 years with the North Colonie Central School District.
Over the years Brian has been very involved with the community serving as an active member of the Latham Fire Department for 12 years and now as a social member. During his time there, he served as Lieutenant and Captain of the Department. Other volunteer opportunities include many years of working with the North Colonie Youth Baseball Association, Shaker Athletics, the Empire State Youth Orchestra and serving as MC for many charity and fundraising events.
Brian has also served on different governmental boards in the Town over the past 10 years including the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board. Being on these boards has given him a true insight into the planning process and smart development with a focus on repurposing vacant and underutilized sites. He feels the Town has been, and continues to be, going in the right direction and that the residents can learn more about what is going on in their town from the leadership.
I truly feel that we live in one of the finest towns in the country and that we are focused on looking ahead for all town residents and future generations. We have excellent public safety programs with Police, Fire and EMS and some of the lowest school and property taxes in the area. I believe communication is the key to a successful organization and will work my hardest to be available for every person in the town. It will be an honor to serve the residents in this capacity and I know that we have a team in place that wants the best for the Town.
