  A Memorial for All Veterans.
Although a few hamlets within the Town of Colonie already have Veterans Memorials such as West Albany Pocket Park, none of these sites has been exclusively for Town residents from all military branches of the services and in all wars.

Officers and members of the Robert L. Weininger Memorial VFW Post 8692 — in concert with the Town of Colonie — are currently making plans to honor Town veterans (both living and deceased) for their courage and sacrifice by constructing a new, 2,500-square-foot memorial at The Crossings of Colonie located at 580 Albany Shaker Road.

As a passive park, The Crossings of Colonie is a fitting place to host and maintain this memorial, since reflection is one if its primary purposes. It is also hoped that the memorial’s location adjacent to the playground will encourage families to educate their children about sacrifices made by previous generations.

All Encompassing Memorial.
Designed by Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture & Engineering P.C., the new memorial will feature five stone plaques (representing army, navy, air force, marines and coast guard) mounted to a bluestone retaining wall, in front of which will run a narrow reflective pool.

The names of Town veterans will be inscribed on stone pavers placed in front of the memorial. The handicapped accessible, tree-lined setting will also feature a distinctive flagpole, benches and will be connected to the existing bike path.
