Committee Structure

The Advisory Board has established five working committees: Community Development/Outreach, Public Relations/Marketing/Education, Programs and Services, Management/Organization and Housing and Zoning. These committees correspond to the four strategic areas that were outlined in the original strategic planning process of the Colonie Senior Network task force. Following is a brief description of the kinds of dimensions expected to be addressed by each of the committees:

Community Development/Outreach: community and neighborhood outreach; identify existing formal and informal networks to identify gaps in service delivery; volunteer recruitment and training.

Public Relations/Marketing/Education: distribution of information to the public to enhance access and reinforce a sense of community; distribution of information to Town departments and service providers to reinforce coordination of the delivery system; use of public media; staff education and training on senior issues; increase awareness of and sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity.

Programs and Services: assess the capacity of local agencies to address current trends and needs; look at possibilities for forming partnerships to address senior needs; explore alternative locations for programs and services; plan services to address cultural and ethnic diversity.

Management/Organization: increase use of technology and information-sharing; create more comprehensive databases to assess trends for planning purposes; coordinate the roles of organizations providing programs and services to seniors; assess current and future staffing issues.

Housing and Zoning: evaluate new housing projects and zoning requests to evaluate the impact on seniors.
