Recycle Your Old Eyeglasses, and Styroafoam Packing Peanuts
Eye Glasses The eye glasses will be delivered by the Division to the local Lions Club office which separate the eye glasses into two groups; glasses with precious metals for recycling and glasses which are cleaned, prescriptions read and shipped to needy individuals in Third World Countries. The revenues received from the recycling of the precious metals are used to support the Lions Club support of various eye research programs. This program would provide an easy system for our Town residents and employees to reuse or recycle their glasses in place of disposing of their glasses when they replace their old glasses. This program diverts a significant number of "old" glasses that, if not reused in a program such as this, would likely otherwise be discarded. The Residential Toll Booth is open to accept these old glasses at 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Questions regarding the program should be directed to the Division of Environmental Services at 783-2827, e-mail address of ensr@colonie.org. Styrofoam Packing Peanuts Residents or businesses located within the Town should bring their styrofoam packing peanuts in to the RRRS in sealed translucent plastic bags, free of all other materials, moisture or other contaminates. The packing materials will be transported to facilities to recycle the styrofoam or to companies to reuse the packing materials. There is no charge for bringing in the packing materials to the RRRS. If anyone has any questions in regard to this program or the Town's Solid Waste Management Facilities, they should call the Division of Environmental Services at 783-2827 or contact us by email at ensr@colonie.org.
