The Town of Colonie (pronounced Kol-on-ee', with the accent on the last syllable) was founded in 1895 and received its name from the Dutch "Colonie" meaning "the settlement outside the city." Today, Colonie is the hub of the Capital District just minutes from the downtowns of Albany, Schenectady, and Troy.
