About the Department
The Town of Colonie Youth Bureau works cooperatively with the local community to coordinate, plan and develop programs and services that enhance and further develop the lives of our young people.
The Youth Bureau acts as a resource to young people, families, the North and South Colonie School Districts, CBA and to the community in general. We offer a number of programs and services which include:

Q. Where should I go to obtain working papers?
A. Working papers are only issued through your local high school.
Q. What is the current minimum wage?
A. The current minimum wage is $7.15 per hour.
Q. Do I need to take the Red Cross Babysitting Course in order to babysit?
A. Although the Red Cross Babysitting Course is highly recommended for babysitters, it is not a requirement.
Q. Does the Youth Bureau operate a nursery or pre-school program?
A. No. The Youth Bureau does not operate a nursery or pre-school program.
Q. Does the Wrap Around Program accept part-time students?
A. No. Only full-time students are admitted on a first come, first serve basis.
Q. When does Toddler Tales meet?
A. The group gathers on Fridays, mid-September through the first week in June. Toddler Tales follows the South Colonie School District calendar, including being closed on days when there is only a delay.
Q. How is Caring Connection different from Toddler Tales?
A. Caring Connection is a small group experience for preschoolers. Pre-registration is necessary, and the groups are limited to ten (10) children per session.
Q. May I use the fields behind the Colonie Youth Bureau facility to hold a sports practice?
A. The fields behind the Colonie Youth Bureau are available for use by sports teams or organizations, as long as prior approval is received from the Director's office. A Town of Colonie Building/Facility Use Form, which may be obtained from the Director's office, must be completed by the individual filing the application and submitted to the Director for approval. A certificate of liability insurance is also required.
Q. Is the parking lot of the Colonie Youth Bureau available to hold a car wash fundraising event?
A. The parking lot may be utilized to hold a car wash if a Town of Colonie Building/Facility Use Form is completed by an individual from the organization and submitted to the Director of the Youth Bureau for approval, along with a certificate of liability insurance. However, the Youth Bureau reserves the right to rescind prior approval of any car wash in the event water restrictions are placed upon the Town of Colonie by the Latham Water District.
Q. Is it possible to rent a room in the Youth Bureau facility for meetings or activities that require a long-term or continuous commitment?
A. Yes. Various groups rent available space in the facility for meetings or sports activities throughout the year on a once-a- week or monthly basis.

Facility Use - 1653 Central Avenue
The building located at 1653 Central Avenue has several rooms, two lounges, auditorium, gym and outside field for Youth Bureau and community use. Fees are charged based on the number of rooms and amount of time requested. In certain situations fees are not charged based on the nature of the organization and the purpose for which space is being requested.
